Fissure sealants are a non-invasive procedure where a thin coating of tooth coloured dental material is applied to the grooves and pits (fissures) of the teeth. Most fissure sealants are applied to the chewing surfaces where patients have deep groves in their back teeth. They protect the tooth surface from tooth decay by keeping food and plaque out of the grooves.
